Senior Regional Manager of the Great Lakes Region
Steve Hanson joined PLM Lake and Land Management in 2002 and has since become a seasoned expert in the aquatic industry. Steve currently serves as the Senior Regional Manager of the Great Lakes Region. As Senior Regional Manager, he oversees the South-Central and Southeast Michigan lakes, ponds, and terrestrial management operations.
At PLM, Steve has focused on developing, managing, and maintaining the Michigan GIS database and provides instructional support to staff for GIS-based software, including ArcMap, ArcGIS, ReefMaster, etc. He has also provided technical support and recommendations for fisheries and aquatic ecology-related issues throughout the State of Michigan. Steve’s advanced knowledge in fisheries and aquatic plants has expanded PLM’s services and capabilities.
Steve earned his Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degree in Fisheries Biology from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, in 2001. While at MSU, he conducted research analyzing the use of Fluridone in the State of Michigan. Steve began working with PLM at the Great Lakes Region in Alto, Michigan, and throughout his career has expanded PLM’s Eastern Lakes & Ponds Division. He now runs his own division located in Morrice, Michigan.
Steve’s accomplishments include taking charge of numerous evaluation treatments, including working on a three-year study of Curlyleaf pondweed turions and long-term control measures utilizing low-dose applications of Sonar A.S. Steve also maintains a Commercial Pesticide Applicator License and a Commercial Drone Pilot’s License.
Beyond his professional achievements, Steve is married to his spouse, and they have two children. Steve enjoys spending time with his family and is an avid fisherman and bow hunter. He also enjoys tennis, and more recently, pickleball.
